Taylor Swift
“You Belong With Me”

A lot of people get a little annoyed with this video because it implies that maybe Taylor Swift isn’t the cheer captain, but instead the nerdy girl on the bleachers. But you know, I think the fact that she plays both the protagonist and the antagonist in the clip signals the more obvious thing: Swift herself is probably a little of both, and this song isn’t totally about her anyway, even if it is based on something real. “You Belong With Me” has a specific narrative, but it’s built for anyone who has ever experienced love unrequited love. (Which is pretty much everyone, right? If there was never a moment in your life when you couldn’t relate to this song, I must admit that I kinda hate you.) Like Swift herself, Roman White’s video is adorable, earnest, and banal in the most delightful way possible, and unlike a majority of major pop videos of recent vintage, it already seems rather iconic. It’s not hard to imagine seeing girls dressed up as Nerdy Taylor Swift With Writing All Over Her T-Shirt on Halloween, you know?

Hands down my favorite song of the year and getting up to Hey Jealousy status.  I am not embarrassed for the amount of times I’ve watched this video, but I am embarrassed when I make my friends watch it and they don’t get love. I am pretty sure Jake Oliver has seen me come to close to tears when they get together at the end of the video.

I also do believe that Taylor Swift is a total nerd burger who just happens to look like a teenage dream woman.
